Exhibition and Public Consultation

Earlier this year Wandsworth Council and London Festival of Architecture launched a competition to improve the appearance and feel of Thessaly Road Railway Bridge for existing communities, pedestrians and cyclists. In keeping with LFA’s mission to harness the talent of London’s architectural and creative community, the aim of the competition was to bring fresh ideas to improving the built environment in this key location, and act as a valuable demonstration project for similar sites across London and elsewhere.

London Festival of Architecture and Wandsworth Council are therefore pleased to present this exhibition of the six shortlisted proposals as part of London Festival of Architecture 2018.

The competition, which was open to architects, designers, artists and students, attracted 108 entries; one of the largest responses to an LFA design competition to date. The shortlist offers an exceptional and diverse showcase of architectural and design talent.

Over the last three months each of the shortlisted practices has been introduced to residents, members of the local community and key stakeholders in order to further inform their final proposals. The exhibition presented is the culmination of this process.

The projects welcome community feedback and forms are available at the ROSE Community Centre on Ascalon Street and at St George’s Church on the Patmore estate between 5 – 18th June, at the advertised times. Feedback can also be submitted online through Wandsworth Council’s consultation portal: https://haveyoursay.citizenspace.com/wandsworthhrd/thessaly/ (now closed as of June 19th)

Following the meeting of an expert panel to assess the shortlisted proposals on design and feasibility, the winning entry will be announced before the end of this year’s LFA. The winning team will be awarded £20,000 to further develop the design which, subject to planning consent, will be installed as part of London Festival of Architecture 2019. The overall budget for the project is £200,000.
