The winners of Vauxhall One’s international design competition for the redesign of Vauxhall’s public realm have been announced.
The winning entries are:
The aim is to create a striking new identity for the area in and around Vauxhall. Shortlisted entries are now on displayat the Garden Museum and on an outdoor trail through the rail arches and parks of Vauxhall until Monday 22 April.
The museum is located on Lambeth Palace Road and is open to the public Sunday – Friday 10.30am – 5.00pm, and Saturday 10.30am – 4.00pm.
Vauxhall is at the heart of Nine Elms on the South Bank, the £15 billion opportunity area between Lambeth Bridge and Chelsea Bridge which includes Vauxhall town centre, the new US Embassy and Battersea Power Station.
The competition was judged by a panel of high profile figures (including Angela Brady, President of RIBA) and entries were judged by a number of criteria including opportunities for green intervention, inventiveness, viability and complimenting of existing developments to ensure a joined up and considered public realm for the entire area.
Each of the winners will receive a prize of £2,000, the student winner will receive £500. The winning entries will now have a month to expand their initial ideas in line with the GLA Green Infrastructure Audit before presenting to the judging panel. A final winner will then be chosen to work with the Vauxhall One team on the five year programme of work.
