Robin Klassnik OBE said, “After we appointed them we visited their office. I knew immediately then that we had made the right choice.”

Robin Klassnik, the Chair and the Trustees of Matt’s Gallery are pleased to announce that architects Manalo & White have been appointed to design their new gallery space in Nine Elms.

In 2019/20 Matt’s Gallery will move to a permanent 9,000 sq. ft, double-height gallery space in the Nine Elms development on the South Bank, marking the next phase and an exciting future for the gallery. Stephen Beasley, of Manalo & White, will lead the project to devise the plans for the interior fit-out of the new gallery.

The new gallery space is provided to Wandsworth Council by developers Bellway as part of their Section 106 commitments. Matt’s Gallery were selected as the tenants by Wandsworth and Bellway following a competitive tender process.

Manalo & White were selected by a panel that included Robin Klassnik, Director, Matt’s Gallery; Christopher Turner, Chair of Trustees, Matt’s Gallery; Tim Dixon, Gallery Manager, Matt’s Gallery; Roy Voss, Artist; Anne Mullins, Head of Culture, Nine Elms and Julia Royse, Relationship Manager, Arts Council England.

Manalo & White was established in 1999 by Brian Greathead. He was joined in 2006 by Stephen Beasley who has lead the practice’s work in the arts sector. Past projects include Focal Point Gallery in Southend-on-Sea, an exhibition design with Fraser Muggeridge Studio celebrating 70 years of the Arts Council Collection, and The Mandrake, a boutique hotel in Fitzrovia. The practice also works directly with artists, such as Mike Nelson and Tris Vonna-Michell, and has designed exhibitions for various arts organisations including the Southbank Centre. Stephen is currently completing the collaborative design of an apartment with artist Marc Camille Chaimowicz in Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens.
