Innovative ideas on how to reshape Vauxhall’s public realm are now on display at the Garden Museum and along an outdoor trail through the area’s railway arches and parks.

The designs have been submitted to a Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) design competition calling for proposals on how to improve Vauxhall’s outdoor space. There were 100 entries from 21 countries across the globe.

The shortlisted proposals will be on display until April 19th and can be viewed online at RIBA’s website.

The contest was arranged by Vauxhall One, the Business Improvement District for Vauxhall, and was launched on January 14 in partnership with the Landscape Institute, Garden Museum and RIBA.

Chris Law, Public Realm and Development Director at Vauxhall One, said:

“The number and quality of the competition entries is really exceptional. There are some marvellous ideas for the public realm in Vauxhall.

“The green links and sustainable transport ideas for cycling and walking are outstanding and we really look forward to the exhibition from April 8th to 19th at the Garden Museum, and through the parks and rail arches of Vauxhall.”

The project follows on from Vauxhall One’s successful rail arch regeneration project, which has seen local developers revive uninspiring spaces beneath Vauxhall’s railway viaduct.

The ultimate aim of the business group’s public realm strategy is to develop a striking network of vibrant green spaces which set Vauxhall apart from other areas and create great routes for cycling and walking.
