Dozens of local businesses met face-to-face with the major buyers from the Nine Elms regeneration programme on Wednesday as they prepare to tender a series of new contracts.
The ‘Meet the Buyer’ event took place at The Hotel Verta, Battersea as part of the long-running Supply Nine Elms on the South Bank programme which features supply chain development workshops, one-to-one support and gives local firms a direct line to the area’s investors.
The businesses taking part in Wednesday’s event were vetted and matched to the buyers’ needs, to ensure they have a good chance of securing forthcoming contracts.
Over 50 local firms took part and 15 buyers including Breyer Group, Carillion, Cofely GDF, Durkan, Midgard, St James, SISK, Vinci, Rendall & Rittner, Mace, London Square, Ballymore and Battersea Power Station Development Co. and FM Conway.
Ravi Govindia, leader of Wandsworth Council and co-chair of the Nine Elms Vauxhall Partnership, opened the event. He said:
“Nine Elms is the UK biggest regeneration project and is generating demand for all sorts of goods and services. Through this long running programme we ensure local firms have every opportunity to forge links with the area’s buyers and are in pole position when new contacts go out to the market.
“Wandsworth is home to a highly competitive and diverse business community with the skills and capacity Nine Elms’ new investors need. I have every confidence the buyers at this event will recognise that talent and forge successful partnerships with our local firms.”
Benjamin Forbes, Procurement Manager at Battersea Power Station Development Company, said:
“It’s been a really useful event and we’ve met businesses who are all relevant to the project. The Supply Nine Elms programme has been great in creating links to the local community, enabling us to buy into local procurement and giving us the platform to build, create and partner with local businesses.”
The Supply Nine Elms on the South Bank programme, is designed to help Wandsworth and Lambeth businesses who provide building and construction related services grow, reach new clients and be fit to compete for new contracts. It is funded by Wandsworth and Lambeth Councils and delivered by GLE One London.
Nine Elms on the South Bank is the UK’s biggest investment programme and includes Vauxhall town centre, the new US Embassy, New Covent Garden Market and Battersea Power Station.
