Work has started on site at Bellway Homes Thames Gateway’s latest development, The Residence. The five star developer has begun the demolition of the Christie’s Auctioneers storage facilities to make way for two new, 19 storey buildings on Ponton Road, SW8. The Residence will deliver over 500 much needed new homes in the capital.

The Residence is a collection of one, two, three and four bedroom homes, planned over several phases and due for completion in 2017. The exciting new development will also include 2,475m² of commercial space, with the aim of bringing new retail and lifestyle opportunities to the area.

Commenting on the start of work, Ian Gorst, Managing Director of Bellway Homes’ Thames Gateway Division, said: “We are delighted that work has now started. The Residence is an exciting new project for Bellway, and we are thrilled to be involved in the extensive regeneration of the Battersea and Nine Elms area. We’re looking forward to continuing to work closely with the community as this develops.”

Of the 510 new homes at The Residence, 76 will be affordable and there is also the potential to deliver rare private rented accommodation. Undercroft car and cycle parking will be available to residents, 10% of which will be dedicated to disabled drivers, and electric car charging points will be provided.

The scheme design by Maccreanor Lavington Architects in conjunction with GRID Inside Designers is a modern and sustainable interpretation taking into consideration the broad history of the area. Designed to Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4, the regeneration includes a variety of measures to help energy efficiency, including improved insulation, large windows for solar gain as well as support for community recycling.
