Ballymore Group has brought a new pop-up grocery, deli and restaurant concept to its Embassy Gardens development in Nine Elms, Wandsworth this month – the culmination of its investment in an eminent, local gastronomical professional.

Known as Market Porter, the restaurant and deli concept comes following the developer’s decision to diversify Embassy Gardens’ commercial spaces by investing in local talent and industry expertise, something it has achieved by partnering with local ecommerce entrepreneur and MeatPorter.com founder Stefan Porter.

Speaking of his company’s decision to invest in the concept, Ballymore Managing Director John Mulryan explained: “Our vision for the completed Embassy Gardens is somewhere that is diverse, rich and beautifully designed – a place in which people can reside and absorb life. Market Porter is the first example of this at the development; it is locally-inspired, unique and a testament to the hard work of Stefan – in whom we have found a great partner. This is the first step in Ballymore’s plans for amenities at Embassy Gardens; next week Waitrose will open at the development, offering more great facilities for the area.”

Market Porter, which will remain open at Embassy Gardens for at least a year, promises to be an ‘offline home for online brands’ – meaning that goods normally only available via websites can be bought from the space. Brands signed up so far include Meat Porter, Naked Wines (the brand’s first ever offline outlet), Forleaves Tea, Honest Brew and Rod & Ben’s.

Battersea-based Stefan added: “I am honoured that Ballymore Group has offered me this opportunity and given me a fantastic framework within which I can develop this concept. Ten e-commerce brands are already on board and I am thrilled to be bringing them to the local area. It’s the perfect setting for my café bar which will offer everyday grocery supplies for residents as well as an informally designed, relaxed dining and drinking space.”

Cllr Govindia, Leader of Wandsworth Council and co-chair of the Nine Elms Vauxhall Partnership concluded: “Seeing Embassy Gardens begin to come to life is fantastic and it is great to have another food and drink offer open for the residents of the area to enjoy. We are thrilled that this local entrepreneur from Wandsworth has been given the opportunity to grow his business, with investment and support from Ballymore, we hope to see more of this across Nine Elms on the South Bank.”

The restaurant opening follows the launch of the second phase of homes at Embassy Gardens which were released for sale in Autumn 2015. Phase two of the scheme will be delivered by the joint venture company Eco World Ballymore, comprising circa 870 units alongside retail, leisure and office facilities.

The development, which is the residential heart of Nine Elms on the South Bank, continues to be heralded as an example of regeneration in London, providing almost 2,000 new homes, stunning landscaped gardens and vibrant new bars, restaurants and al fresco space. Located next door to the new US Embassy, the development will benefit from the transformation of the area which will include 20,000 new homes and 6.5 million square foot of commercial space, an extension to the Northern Line and a proposed new pedestrian and cycle bridge.
