A solo exhibition from artist and furniture maker Yinka Ilori, which coincides with Ilori’s first public commission to redesign a Nine Elms underpass in a project called ‘Happy Street’.
Wandsworth Council and the Royal College of Art are delighted to be hosting Ilori’s exhibition at StudioRCA, inspired by the 16 different types of happiness incorporated into his Thessaly Road underpass artwork.
Each upcycled piece Ilori creates tells a story that brings Nigerian verbal traditions into playful conversation with contemporary design, touching on themes of hope, sexuality and social class through parables that are as relevant today as ever. This new exhibition also profiles Ilori’s passionate drive to counter the unnecessary waste of European and West African consumer cultures.
Opening on the 8th of May, the exhibition is open from 12:00 to 18:00 on Saturdays and Sundays and during the May half term, apart from the 12th of May when it is open from 10:00am until 13:00. Types of Happiness will also be open on Friday the 10th of May from 12:00 to 18:00 as part of London Craft Week.
