Artist Lucy Cash was selected to create a new film and performance co-created with local community groups, schools and residents’ associations. Nine Songs for Nine Elms explores the shifting landscapes of the Nine Elms development area through lyrics and songs dedicated to the land and soil which hold the history of the area. Artist Lucy Cash is working with local residents and community groups including Griffin Primary School and the Doddington Community Roof Garden to uncover local stories that relate to the horticultural history of Battersea and surrounding area. Nine Songs for Nine Elms has explored heritage narratives, local stories and memories which celebrate the diverse history of the local area. The creation of the songs offered a diverse range of ways to get involved – inviting residents to contribute words or voice, choreography or an idea for the performance of the song. The film will be screened tonight.
