Some[w]Here Now: Soapbox Art Lab & The Day of Small Conversations (6th-9th June)

Some[w]Here Now invites artists, local people and others interested to join the drawing shed for open conversation at Pump House Gallery on how artists can work collaboratively with ‘local’ communities and in ‘public’ places in the context of Now. The frame is set by the drawing shed’s Some[w]Here contemporary arts project on three housing estates situated in Nine Elms in the shadow of the Battersea Power Station Development and close to Pump House Gallery.

The Day of Small Conversations on 9 June will be co-hosted by a number of artists and thinkers, including Sally Labern, Bobby Lloyd, Jordan McKenzie, Barby Asante, Daniella Valz Gen, Adrian Renton, Cara Courage, Dr. Debra Benita Shaw, and Live Art Development Agency (more to be announced). The day’s agenda will then be shaped by all of the voices in the room, with conversations passing between small groups throughout, looking towards future possible projects, shared actions and collaborations.

The Day of Small Conversations follows the drawing shed’s SoapBox Arts Lab taking place at the gallery from 6-8 June. The artists will be taking over the gallery for individual and collaborative making of mobile soapbox structures. These will further be used as a platform on 9 June, where the drawing shed will also be launching the Some[w]Here publication: Manual for Possible Projects on the Horizon.

The Day of Small Conversations tickets: £5 (contribution to lunch and refreshments) / Free for local residents. Places will be limited and popular – please book in advance (see Pump House Gallery website). The SoapBox Arts Lab is free; please turn up on any of the three days to join in.

Supported by Arts Council England Grants for the Arts, Wandsworth Council and Pump House Gallery.
