Starting at Battersea Arts Centre, this walk will feature 9 women – Jeanie Nassau Senior, first woman civil servant whose home Elm House was on the site of Battersea Town Hall and ending at 53 Battersea Rise, (now Farrago restaurant) which was the home of Pamela Hansford Johnson novelist and first girlfriend of poet Dylan Thomas.
It will also feature Charlotte Despard, Caroline Ganley CBE, Battersea Councillor and MP who will feature in a talk by Sue Demont and the unveiling of a commemorative plaque on 20th October, Battersea Deaconess Isabella Gilmore, Marie Spartali, Pre-Raphaelite artist who live in The Shrubbery Lavender Gardens, Laura Barker Victorian composer of Lavender Sweep House and mother and daughter Edith and Elsa Lanchester, Hollywood actress.
This walk was requested by Battersea Women’s Institute.
