The BPF propose to host a public seminar to outline what ‘good policy-making’, that respects both the heritage of old and the needs of the new, should look like. We will invite a range of placemaking champions, as well as speakers from central and local government, to discuss and debate ways in which policy can promote the preservation of identity in the new.
The ultimate ambition here is to prescribe a doctrine of ‘good practice’ for developers and local authorities to ensure that ‘place is more than space’ and can maintain the heritage of what has preceded it. We want to regenerate how placemaking is perceived and unload a term that has for a long time divided opinion amongst the built community.
