Richard Grayson’s By Our Own Hand is the first exhibition in Matt’s Gallery’s future home in the heart of Nine Elms.

The exhibition will take place in the shell space of our new venue on the ground floor of Bellway’s The Residence. In the coming months we will oversee the construction of a purpose-built visual arts space designed by architects Manalo & White. This new space will contain a complex of galleries, artist’s studios and a permanent public home for our archive, enlivening this area of Wandsworth with an exciting new cultural offering.

Matt’s Gallery is offering a first look at the new space before our works get under way. Grayson’s project will be on display alongside a model of our future space by Manalo & White.

By Our Own Hand is an artwork made with the participation of individuals and organisations in Wandsworth. Regular meetings have been led by embroiderer and educator James Hunting with Grayson, kindly hosted and supported by the R.O.S.E Community Centre, Wandsworth. The resulting work consists of 42 embroidered panels brought together to form the phrase “Boredom is always counter-revolutionary”, a quote from Guy Debord.

Matt’s Gallery at Nine Elms is funded by Bellway, in agreement with Wandsworth Council as part of their Section 106 commitments.

By Our Own Hand is kindly sponsored by Zweigart our principle partner for canvas, John James our principle partner for needles, DMC Creative our principle partner for threads.
