LFA 2015: Nine Elms on the South Bank: shaping a new identity

A panel discussion at Brunswick House, exploring the challenges of creating a sense of place in a diverse area which will deliver a mixture of residential, commercial and leisure developments. Areas of focus will include the tall buildings cluster in Vauxhall, Network Rail’s 170 railway arches, the new town centre to be created at Battersea Power Station and New Covent Garden Market.

A panel event held at Brunswick House, Vauxhall. The panel will explore the challenges of creating a sense of place in a diverse area which will deliver a mixture of residential, commercial and leisure developments. Areas of focus will include the tall buildings cluster in Vauxhall, Network Rail’s 170 railway arches, the new town centre to be created at Battersea Power Station and New Covent Garden Market.

Cllr Ravi Govindia – Leader of Wandsworth Council and Co-Chair of the Nine Elms Vauxhall Partnership
Sandra Roebuck – Programme Director for Strategic and Neighbourhood Investment, Lambeth Council
Pam Alexander – Chair, Covent Garden Market Authority. New Covent Garden Market currently supports over 200 small businesses, the market is being completely rebuilt and a new public facing market is being built
Adrian Amos – Proprietor of LASSCO and Brunswick House. Built in 1759 Brunswick House was once the seat of the Duke of Brunswick. The Georgian mansion is now one of many cultural gems in the area housing a celebrated restaurant, bar, coffee shop, events venue and architectural salvage yard
John Bushell – Principal at Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates. KPF are the architects behind One Nine Elms and New Bondway, two of the tall buildings in the Vauxhall cluster. One Nine Elms is a 56-storey building of residential, office, hotel and retail space. New Bondway combines high quality residential and office space over 50 storeys
David Twohig – Head of Design and Placemaking, Battersea Power Station. Battersea Power Station will create a new town centre including 3,800 new homes, 160,000 sq m of new office space and 56,000 sq m of retail
Robin Hughes – Commercial Estate Property Manager at Network Rail. Network Rail own 170 railway arches in the area which they have a strategy to open up and give purpose to, with many being converted for retail opportunities or improved with art offerings

The event will be free but ticketed to manage capacity.
