London artist Yinka Ilori is transforming the Thessaly Road underpass in Nine Elms with his Happy Street design. This original large-scale artwork was voted for by local residents and commissioned by Wandsworth Council in partnership with London Festival of Architecture. In celebration, come along to workshops, talks and events from 1 May – 13 July 2019.

 

The Making of Happy Street talk

Wednesday 1 May, 7-8pm

Join artist Yinka Ilori and architects Red Deer to find out how they designed the colourful artwork for the Thessaly Road underpass.

‘Colour-in your own Happy Street bridge’ after-school workshops

Thursday 2 May, 4-5.30pm (ages 4+) and 6-7.30pm (ages 8+)

Bring the family to the ROSE to meet the artist Yinka Ilori and take part in a free colouring-in workshop after school.

‘Colour in your own Happy Street bridge’ drop-in family workshop

Sunday 12 May, 2-6pm (ages 4+)

All the family are invited to meet the artist behind the Happy Street redesign and have a go at colouring in their own bridge.

Build your Happy Place family drop-in workshop

Tuesday 21 May, 4-8pm (ages 7+)

Have a go at building a ‘happy place’ creation using mini-modular pieces. Run by Red Deer architects who are bringing the Happy Street bridge design to life.

‘Colour and pattern’ half-term workshops

Tuesday 28 May, 11am-12.30pm (ages 5-7) and 1.30-3pm (ages 8+)

Families are invited to hear the designer Yinka Ilori talk about how he uses colour and pattern and join him in a hands-on workshop where you can design your own pattern.

Happy Streets Festival

Saturday 13 July 2019, from 12noon to 6pm (all ages)

Celebrate the colourful redesign of Thessaly Road rail underpass at a free festival for the whole family. Join in with arts workshops, listen to live music and watch performances. Find out more about Happy Streets Festival.

**Family workshops information – please note all workshop places are offered on a first come, first served basis. Parents and guardians must stay with their children during the workshop and are welcome to join in. These free workshops are for families and residents from the Thessaly Road and Nine Elms area.


You will also be able to see Yinka’s exciting exhibition at StudioRCA, Types of Happiness, as part of of London Craft Week.

8 May to 23 June 2019, 12-6pm.

Open Saturdays, Sundays and May half-term (27 to 31 May). Additional opening times during London Craft Week – Wed 8 May and Fri 10 May 12-6pm, Plus extended opening Sun 12 May from 10am. A solo exhibition from designer Yinka Ilori which features re-loved furniture, the art of sitting down and the 16 different types of happiness incorporated into his Happy Street underpass design.
